A hotel in China was built in just six days! This is the Arc Hotel located in Changsha.

The 15-story sustainable hotel already had its foundation prepared. By using prefabricated columns and modules as well as modern construction techniques, construction workers took just 46 hours to finish the main structural components and another 90 hours to finish the building enclosure. While the workers didn’t work all through the night, they did work until 10pm each night.

Here are some details about the hotel:

beggar-fake-crippled-1

There’s quite a lot of beggars scattered around China. Although there are some who are truly helpless and deserve pity, there are many who fake misfortune for profit. In fact, there are even big organizations of beggars that do such a thing.

Many Chinese, and even foreigners, are aware that the beggars they see on the streets may not be genuine. Yes, even beggars in China can be fake. A sad situation, but one that would occur anywhere when there is greed and people with sympathy.

The questions most people have when faced with a beggar are whether he really is a beggar and should I give him money?

It’s funny how a little makeup and styling can do to change one’s perception…

Chinese gamers are really serious and seriously rich. Take this gamer for instance: unhappy that a competing guildmaster in the Chinese MMO Magic World Online 2 got to play in an IMAX theater, he came up with a way to play on a bigger screen. Not just a bigger screen, in fact, the World’s largest LED display. This display, measuring at 250-meter-long and 30-meter-wide, is so big that it is called the “skyscreen”. It is located in, The Place, a high-end mall in Beijing.

The most insane thing about the whole stunt is that the gamer paid RMB 100,000 (around USD 15,000) for just 10 minutes of game time. This may also earn him the title for the gamer who “wasted the most money in the least amount of time”.

Other rich Chinese gamers will have to wait until the LED screen in Dubai which will become the World’s largest when completed, before beating this record.

I’m not sure what to post lately. Any Chinese related news are either too serious or just plain boring. Next Media has slacked off and are now just making animated news mocking U.S.A.

What I’m left with is a whole bunch of items related to animal cruelty.

To be honest, I don’t really have much compassion for animals other than humans. I usually laugh at those silly animal rights activists but these recent cases of animal cruelty have really got me fuming…

When you think of China, human rights and personal freedom are probably not the first things that come to mind. However, getting arrested for a tweet; especially one that is pro-China; seems pretty harsh even for Kim Jong-il standards.

Amnesty International are urging the Chinese authorities to release a woman sentenced to a year in a labour camp for retweeting a supposedly anti-Japanese message.

Recently, an 18th century Chinese porcelain vase stunned the world by setting the highest price ever for Chinese art sold.

The vase, which was discovered when a house was cleared out was sold for £43 million ($69.3 million) at Bainbridges Auctions (£53.1m after commission which pushes the total to over $85 million). The vase was only estimated to sell for £1.2 million but fierce bidding among Chinese would-be buyers drove up the price. The vase sold to a Chinese bidder who turned up to bid on behalf of an undisclosed buyer.

There is speculation that the delicate vase with the fish motif would have spent time in the Chinese Royal Palace and was likely fired in the Imperial kilns. One of the things that makes this vase so extraordinary is that it has a reticulated double walled construction. There is an inner vase that can be viewed through the perforations of the main body. It is of the Qianlong period, circa 1740s and decorated with four cartouches each showcasing different styles of fish at play on stylized water backgrounds. It has a delicately painted yellow trumpet neck and vase set off from the central decoration by orange bands.

This is funny because I would actually really want to watch a Star Wars film with Arnold in it. I wouldn’t even mind if the movie was edited so that it was a cheap mix of an Arnold movie with Star Wars.

Sadly, the contents would probably contain neither Star Wars or Arnold Schwarzenegger…

What would you do to get a job?

In Chongqing, four men were found lying drunk on the public streets. The reason for their drunkenness was the second round job interview they just attended.

With all the news about China’s economic growth it is easy for us to forget that it is still developing and that there are still many who live under harsh circumstances.

Although most people in China have benefited from China’s growth, there are still a few who are left out.

The image gallery, after the link, is a reminder of those people.
